My morning with Bekah and James began early. At Roswell Mill in Roswell, Ga, standing on the covered bridge, we admired the fast moving water below us. I can't think of a better way to begin a Friday morning.
Bekah and James have been friends of mine for many years. When they got married in May of 2010, I was their wedding photographer. I had only been shooting weddings for a short time then. It's mind-blowing to think of the time that's passed and how life has evolved for myself and for Bekah and James in the six years since.
The two found out they were going to be parents in February of 2016. James had always said their first child would be a girl. Even though James felt so strongly about their baby being a girl, most of their family and friends said the opposite. Sometimes dad's just know best. ;)
Impatient to know what the sex of the baby was, Bekah decided to have genetic testing done 11 weeks into her pregnancy. When the results came back, Bekah and James immediately told his family who were visiting them at the time. A baby girl was on their way to them and had already captured their hearts. Of course, their families were over-the-moon excited for them. Bekah admits now that even though we all said we didn't care which sex the baby was, she was secretly hoping for a little girl.
Nora James is due October 18, 2016, just one day before Bekah's mother's birthday. In love with the name Nora, Bekah knew that'd be their baby girl's first name. Deciding on Nora's middle name was a decision that holds significant meaning for them. As Bekah described it, "there's nothing sweeter than the special bond between a father and his daughter." What better way to honor that bond than to give Nora her dad's name? Sweet stuff...
"I wanted a boy and was slightly upset that it was a girl even though I knew it would be. But now I wouldn't replace her because of how much time and money I spent on her room. ;)
It's crazy the love you can have for a child even though we've never seen her or held her." - James
The week after they found out they were having a girl, James went out and bought "Bringing Up Girls" by James Dobson and immediately started reading it. For those who may not know, the book is about raising girls into strong, healthy, thriving women. This was just one of many instances that showed Bekah what an incredible dad James was going to be to their daughter.
In the moments after Nora's arrival, Bekah looks forward to the instant connection every mother has with their baby once he or she is in her arms. Thinking of years down the road, she looks forward to the moments when everything "clicks" as to why her parents did some of the things they did while raising her, including what they allowed her to do and what they didn't.
"I've enjoyed the pregnancy. Most women complain about how big they are and the weight. To me you have been absolutely beautiful the entire time if not even more so. To watch you grow from a little bump to you looking like you swallowed a watermelon and me having to help you get off the couch. Seeing the love of my life carrying our precious child is probably the most beautiful and attractive thing I've ever seen." - James
"I'm excited to watch her being born. It is truly a miracle and blessing from God that a human is created and developed in the womb." - James
"I'm super excited to see how James and I will be as parents. I can't wait to see him with a little one running around. He already loves to just go and sit in her room and think about her. He tears up every time he thinks about her being here. I know he's going to be a great parent." - Bekah
How stunning are these two?!
To Bekah and James, you two are going to be the coolest parents on the block. Thank you for sharing your sweet story with me while allowing me to capture this brief but oh so special time in your lives! I know Nora is going to be adorable and I can NOT wait to meet her very soon!!! xoxo
